Here is “21”. 21st of December, my birthday. The self portrait I began on the 21st of December 2012, when I turned 25 years old, on -2-5 degrees temperature in my studio.

First Step: Find a Mirror !

Nail the unstretched canvas to the wall. The canvas was gessoed and painted black in advance

21, the unstretched canvas was gessoed and painted black. Then painted in acrylics

21, painted in acrylics with a restricted palette

It’s a special day for me especially because on this date, 23 years ago, communism was abolished in Romania.  I will finish this painting in spring, because it’s freezing cold now…

21 Self Portrait — the first one since 2010; around 2 meters high

How are you hanging on with the cold weather?

Do other artists have the same problem as I do ?

No heat in the studio ?

Well don’t despair ! Hang on in there,  you can always draw near the stove😉
