„Waste – first stage” is not only a contradictory paraphrase of the pedagogical methods to teach the realization of Still Lives, but it is also a personal system through which household items are translated into the language of abstraction. Relying on conventional painting techniques and operating with consumer objects, I am searching, at the border of the imperceptible world, for that flashing life within objects, that pulsation or stillness, that intermediate life between animal and object, that shadow or that reflection, “that mysterious element which is animal a few hours of the day and only under the action of light “(Odilon Redon,” Journal “). I am happy to announce that my project ” DUST “ will be exhibited at Melenia Art Gallery (www.meleniagallery.com) in Bucharest starting the 20th of September and until the 17th of November.
I have been working on the “Dust” series of works for over one year now. You can see it on my new website (it’s still under construction!) :
The opening of the DUST solo exhibition is on Thursday 20 of September 2012, at 19.30.
The “Dust” project’s compositions are comprised of hieratic figures who are trapped in a kind of spherical torn. The works are sensorially situated in between humane and the brute with its formal anthropomorphic and zoomorphic approach,. The investigative basis of “Dust“ consists of “catching” the state of inner chaos, which seems to accompany the creative self when it “erupts”. However, the manner of expression is antithetical to this „eruption“, manifesting itself as a sort of tactile void.
Joining the “Dust” project, the series of artworks united under the title of „Transmographies” and “Mummifications” combine in a profoundly personal manner diverse areas of artistic expression, such as airbrushing, collage, sculpture and engraving.
The characters which populate the space of these works are emphasized precisely by their lack of individuality: elongated figures with bodies and limbs fanning around, as if drifting into the surroundings. They are ordinary bodies centred around the supressed memories or half-forgotten intimacies that are personal and at the same time as individual to each of us. It is a silent violence, emanating from figures that cannot walk, see or speak.
I will post photos and videos with the exhibition after the opening!
