Master Devis Grebu honoured me greatly by opening my exhibition AFTER ZĂERCS @Signum Gallery in Bucharest:

EN: … she is a sort of locomotive, a locomotive that doesn’t crush the truck or the barriers when they meet, but who simply — I would say– plants flowers behind. She is multiple, has no limits, has this curiosity of the genius to insert, to intervene in all areas, in all matters … and succeeds, and does them very well, in my opinion even better: out of the ordinary. I am so happy for her evolution. It was 11 years ago that we met for the first time. (…) This exhibition is a more special exhibition, since it also has its humor, having been started out of a language problem …… ever since her childhood.

She uses many different materials here, which she either combines or suggests. In the paintings that she does with oil or acrylic on canvas she still suggests combinations of diverse materials. I do not think that one can define her, figurative, surrealist, abstract? I look at her paintings and they could be abstract, but also surrealist or figurative. Because you discover – if you want — in each of the paintings elements that are specific to these categories. I think this is actually a quality. Better yet, not to be integrated under a specific dome. Neither I, in what I do, I don’t think that I could fall under a certain (…) and maybe I an subjective because I see in her the same ambitions, the same desires.

CHILD POINTING WITH HANDS: “KING”

"King" - 90 x 90 cm, gouache and paper on canvas, 2012

“King” – 90 x 90 cm, gouache and paper on canvas

“KING” is the second artwork of a series that I plan to realise one day. I have about 30 ketches that I realised at the age of 2-3 years old. Some sketches have annotations that proof the age (“deux ans et demi” – written in french language – two years and a half), mainly dated around 1989. What is interesting is that these old drawings correspond entirely with my reveries and visions as an artist.  Here is the sketch that stood at the basis of “King” :  Continue reading

INSOMNIA

The “Insomnia” triptych is also part of the ” Sleeps” series of paintings.

They are part of those paintings that I start very intuitively, and they end up face to the corner of the studio for years…I think I’ve started it in my first year at the Bucharest Arts University, and I’ve only now reconsidered it, three years after the first painting session.  Funnily enough, I’ve had to change my location 3 times during these years, and the three paintings have followed me, up on the stairs, down on top of the car, and so on … it is very tough to resist the temptation of ‘finishing’ a painting for such a long time. And yet, as I waited and waited, I realised it was almost finished, it had finished itself during these relocations and daily corner life.

SLEEPS

The series “Sleeps” is a pictorial investigation centered on sleep, as the title indicates. But not the
sleep as the mind bridge to the world of dreams, but rather as a form of alienation of the being from the flow of the world.

BUCHAREST ROADBLOCK

The project“Bucharest, Roadblock” was realised in 2010-2011 during my studies at l’ecole d’art de Grenoble, within the workshop entitled «Cosmetique et politique» (coordinators: Abdelkader Damani, Slimane Rais).

It had as a starting point the travel route between my usual place of residence and other places I usually frequented during the time when I still lived Bucharest, my home town. While traveling in cities across the world, I realised that this route constantly haunted me. Again it happened that year in Grenoble. Continue reading
